Ahh, yes, the couch. Twenty five years after my grandfather's passing and nearly thirty after my grandmother's leave-taking, their deep blue mohair couch remains in my home . . . at its center. There were so many times during a tumultuous childhood that I drew heavily on my knowledge of that across the country couch, knowing that without a doubt my grandmother could be found there, kneeling beside its left arm, praying for my safety, and that of my sisters each morning when she arose and each night before she slept. It was for me a protective talisman, and though it has been lovingly recovered in the same type mohair fabric that it was made with originally, it remains a beloved link with her love, her devotion and her transformative presence in my life. You tell your story beautifully, Rundy. Thank you for sharing your glimpses.
